Firstly, women in civil society should get involved in the examination of what has already been done in their countries to implement the Dakar and Beijing Platforms for Action (PFAs).
Find out what is going on in your country by asking questions like:
- Was there a report back after Beijing? Who participated? What was the outcome?
- Is there a national gender policy? Who participated in its formulation? Is it being implemented?
- Is
CEDAW ratified? Domesticated? Implemented?
Is there a strategic plan of action for PFAs? Who prepared it? What areas of the PFAs are prioritised? What has been implemented? If none, why?
Is there any change in women’s lives since Beijing? For better or worse?
Is there a national report? Who participated/is participating? Who is organising the review? Are NGOs involved?
Is there an NGO shadow report? Who is writing it? Who is funding it?
